Tender has partnered with Respect to host the National Practitioners’ Seminar for Those Addressing Young People’s Use of Violence in Close Relationships on the 24th of March. The forum provided a unique opportunity to learn from successful models of delivery, evaluate work with young people, network with other organisations from across the country and to explore the latest research. There has been a particular focus on education and youth-led initiatives, including peer-to-peer education and campaigning, and the methods used to train young people in the issues.

Tender hosted a conference on December 11th 2009 to launch the results of a two year independent evaluation of its work in secondary schools preventing domestic and sexual violence with young people.  The conference took place at the Institute of Education, WC1H 0AL.

Millenium Bridge Handstand Walk

On Saturday 19th September Nikki Rummer - Tender's Education Co-ordinator - is going to walk across the Millenium Bridge on her hands. The iconic bridge is 144 metres and it will take 500 'hand-steps' to get across.  It's on an incline too.

This is the most difficult of all Nikki's fundraisers and with your support she hopes not only to make it across the Millennium Bridge, but that Tender will continue to engage young people in violence-prevention.

Please support Nikki and Tender through her Just Giving page and come and show your support in person on the Millennium Bridge from 2pm on Saturday September 19th. Join in from the North bank via Mansion House tube station or Southwark on the South Bank.  Join the team involved for relaxing drinks after. For more information send us an email.

BEHIND THE SEEN' PHOTOGRAPHIC EXHIBITION

A group of young Londoners will present a series of anti-violence images at City Hall from the 26th November until the 11th December. The exhibition explores young people's responses to issues surrounding domestic and sexual abuse. 'Behind the Seen' was created as part of a 4-week collaboration delivered by Tender, through the TRUST programme, and London Bubble Theatre Company. The project invited young people to work in their own time, after school, to address how violent relationships are allowed to happen. The outcome of their work is an original exhibition to promote healthy relationships based on equality and respect and to mark the international 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Violence.

TRUST PERFORMANCES BY YOUNG PEOPLE

Young people will be presenting their end of end-of-project performances about healthy and unhealthy relationships in boroughs across Greater London over the next 6 weeks. Tender has worked with 14 groups of young people through the TRUST project this term, a project that works in secondary schools and youth centres for the prevention of domestic abuse and sexual violence. This Autumn, young people have been actively involved in the boroughs of Barnet, Bromley, Camden, Croydon, Ealing, Harrow, Hillingdon, Kensington & Chelsea, Southwark and Waltham Forest.

If you would like more information about TRUST and the upcoming performances, please contact Susie McDonald, Education Manger, at susie@tender.org.uk
