National Lottery Awards Semi-finalist
Our Trust Project is a semi-finalist in the Big Lotteries Awards. We were shortlisted amongst 720 other candidates and are now competing against 9 other candidates for Best Education Project.
"We are very pleased with the increasing recognition of the work we do with young people. Having worked in over 40 schools, Pupil Referral Units and youth centres this year, we’ve had enormous growth since delivering the Trust project to just 5 schools in 2004."
Susie McDonald, Education Manager
Refuge's New Campaign
Refuge have launched a new domestic violence campaign. The campaign aims to raise awareness of the early warning signs of domestic abuse.
New research shows that:
· 81% of women said they received no information about domestic violence when they were at school and yet nearly all of them would have liked to have had lessons about domestic violence as they saw the subject as important.
· 95% of respondents recognised physical abuse as domestic violence but only a quarter of respondents understood the more subtle techniques of control such as jealousy and possessiveness as indicators of domestic violence
· And yet approximately a quarter of all the women questioned had experienced jealousy and possessiveness in an intimate partner relationship
· 50% of respondents said they had experienced at least one of the warning signs
· Of this 50% just over a third of respondents said they had spoken to someone about the abuse - friends, followed by family, were the most trusted confidantes
(Yougov/Refuge research, sample size 513, 18-21 year old women, 15-21 July 2008)
See Refuge's new poster ad here . We wish them a very successful campaign
Trust Project on Channel 5
On Friday 13th June, The Trust Project was featured on the Channel 5 news at 5pm and again at 7pm.
This segment was a response to a report from MPs on the cross-party home affairs committee discussing the way that domestic violence is approached. One of the recommendations in the report says that domestic violence should be made a compulsory part of the sex and relationships curriculum.

London Councils Funding
We’ve also received a grant from London Councils to roll out the Trust Project in every borough in London over the next 4 years. We’ll be working with teachers and young people in over 150 secondary schools and Pupil Referral Units to promote healthy relationships through drama and the arts.
