healthy relationships

Throughout our lives, we are involved in all sorts of relationships: friendships, romances, family ties, and some bonds that cannot be categorized. Quite often, these relationships are fun, raise our self-esteem, and invite us to grow individually. When a relationship is healthy like this, it has the potential to become a special part of our lives.

Keep in mind that all relationships, even healthy ones, can require a lot of time and effort and are still not perfect. Feeling angry and frustrated sometimes is normal and does not mean that the relationship is unhealthy. However, feeling scared, humiliated, pressured, or controlled is not normal and is unhealthy. Violence in a relationship is never okay. It is important for all of us to take a step back from our relationships to decide whether or not they are healthy.

What exactly makes a healthy relationship?

  • Respect
  • Trust and Support
  • Honesty and Accountability
  • Shared Responsibility
  • Negotiation and Fairness
  • Non-Threatening Behaviour
